Motor Monday: Ford V6 EcoBoost found on the new Taurus SHO.

The EcoBoost is a twin turbocharged and direct injected engine designed to deliver torque and power equivalent to a large displacement V8 engine but at the same time be much more efficient.The key to this lies in the exhaust driven turbo, and fuel being sprayed directly into the combustion chamber on top of the pistons rather than being mixed with incoming air before entering each cylinder. The high-pressure direct injection cools the cylinder and allows a relatively high 10.0:1 compression ratio without the engine ‘knock’  that traditional turbo systems can induce.
